Overview

Emirates NBD is a Dubai-headquartered banking group formed in 2007 from the merger of National Bank of Dubai and Emirates Bank International. It is majority owned by the Investment Corporation of Dubai and listed on the Dubai Financial Market. The group operates across the UAE, Egypt, India, Saudi Arabia, the UK and other markets, and in 2025-2026 expanded significantly in India through the acquisition of RBL Bank.

Emirates NBD Egypt (a wholly-owned subsidiary) agreed to acquire HSBC Bank Egypt's retail banking operations, including its retail portfolio, branch/ATM network, customer base and relevant staff; HSBC retains its corporate and institutional banking business in Egypt. HSBC disclosed an expected pre-tax gain of about $300 million from the sale; Emirates NBD did not disclose financial terms. Deal subject to regulatory approval.
